(William Tough?) and Agnes --
William Tough, the brother of Richard Tough (see below) was mentioned in Richard's will, in which he was left Richard's sword, buckler, boots, spurs, chamblet doublet, best riding jacket, and best bonnet. He was probably the William Tough who witnessed grants of land in Rothley, Leicestershire, England 22 September 1511 and 1 May 1518 and was a tenant in chief in the manor of Rothley in 1510. He may have been the husband of Agnes --. Agnes is shown in Rothley rent records in 1525 as "seised in demesne as of fee of divers land and tenements in Rothley and held them of the lord by suit of Court and rent of 4s. 8d. yearly. And William Tough is her son."
Agnes’s child, perhaps by William, is:
- William Tough, admitted to the manor in 1525, married 1) Margaret -- (d. bet. 1536 and 1542) and 2) Joanna -- (plaintiff in a July 1560 suit), held a messuage, two tofts and appurtenances in Rothley, Leicestershire, England and leased it by a deed of 18 April 1542 to Anthony Judde.
The Siblings of William Tough
William had a brother and sister:
- Richard Tough, a merchant, admitted to the freedom of Leicester in 1516/7, will dated 6 September 1517, requested in his will to be buried at Leicester St. Martin, Leicestershire, England and that two pounds of wax "do burn about my herse the day of my burial," married -- -- (mentioned in his will but not named, was with child at the time of Richard's will). His will includes "a quite notable wardrobe and a set of silver spoons" and in it, he "enumerates his clothes, but does not name his wife." (TAG 30:205)
- Avis Tough, mentioned in Richard's will and left a gown lined with white linen. Richard also mentioned "my three sisters daughters" to whom he left "a silver spoon" (presumably a spoon for each), but I am not sure if this means that Avis had three daughters or that Richard had three sisters (only one of whom is named in the will) who had daughters.
