Dirck Theuniszen Quick and Anna Jans Hodje

Dirk Theuniszen Quick was baptized 26 July 1648 in New Amsterdam, New Netherland to Theunis Thomaszen Quick and Belitje Jacobs. Dirk married Anna Jans Hodje [1]. He died before 1702, according to his son Thomas' indenture.

  2. Elisabeth Marrietie Quick, baptized 13 Sep 1680 in New Amsterdam, New Netherland, married 1) Henry Hues [2] and 2) Thomas Frast 27 Jun 1712 in New York City, Kings, New York. 
  3. Thomas Quick, born in New Amsterdam, New Netherland, married Margriet Decker 22 Dec 1713 in Kingston, Ulster, New York, died in Feb 1756. 
  4. Theunis Quick [3], baptized 18 Sep 1695 in New Amsterdam, New Netherland.

[1] It has been suggested that Anna was a de Hooges. If that were so, then she would have been the daughter of Johannes de Hooges (as suggested by Anna's patronym, Jans, meaning "the daughter of Jan or Johannes"). Johannes did indeed have daughters named Annetie and Johanna. However, they were baptized in 1682 and 1690, respectively. Anna's first child was baptized in 1673 and therefore, she could not have been Johannes' daughter. Johannes was the only son in his family. His father, Antoni (the immigrant ancestor of the de Hooges family), had a daughter named Anna but this Anna was having children with Warnaar Hornbeck at the same time as Anna Hodje. In conclusion, Anna Hodje was not likely to have been a de Hooges.
[2] The baptisms of two children from this marriage were recorded: "1699, 11 Jan; Henry Iues, Elisabeth Quik; Dirk; Jacobus de Key, Janneke de Key wife of Jeremias Tothil" and "1703, 28 Mar; Henderi Hues, Elisabeth Quick; Angenitie; Carste Leurse, Johanna Klettera".
[3] There is some speculation by researchers that this Theunis was actually the Thomas who later married Margriet Decker.
