Heijman Guisbertsen and IJken Jans Kuijstensdr.
Heijman Guijsberts[1] was the son of Guijsbert Goertsen and Maria Alerts. He was probably born in Herwijnen, Gelderland, Netherlands and later moved across the Waal River to Andel, North Brabant, Netherlands, where IJken would have lived. Heijman married IJken Jan Kuijstensdochter.[2] IJken was the daughter of Jan Antonisz Kuijsten and Marieken Aert Willemsdr.

[1] Heijman is not seen in the records with the name Roosa. Jan, Govert, and Albert are found using the name Roosa, Roos, Roose, Roos, and de Roos. In addition, the three also used the patronym Heijmans, indicating that they were sons of a Heijman and, therefore, most likely brothers. As further support, all three named children Heijman/Heyman and Eyken/Ike, probably after their parents. Footnotes
[2] Jos De Kloe found a Heijman Guijsberts, husband of IJken Jan Kuisten, mentioned as an heir in the will of Marieken Aert Willemsdr., the mother of IJken. The reasons he believes this Heijman Guijsberts to be the Roosa ancestor is:
· “In Andel there is only one man, in this time period, that bore the name Heijman Ghijsberts; up to 1750 no one else in the village carried this combination of first name and patronymic name.”
· “The name Heijman is a rare name anyway in this village (later typical to the Rosa clan).”
· “Years later appear a Jan Heijmans Roza and a Govert Heijmans Rosa, both having daughters named Eijke. Jan first uses the name Rosa in 1654, Govert first in 1653.” In addition, Albert Heymans Roosa also had a daughter Eyke.
[3] Herwijnen Through the Centuries lists his children as Maria Jans Rosa, Jacoba Jans Rosa, Heijman Jans Rosa, and Eyken Jans Rosa. In addition, IJken would probably have named one of her sons after her father, Jan.
[4] Herwijnen Through the Centuries lists his children as Trintje Goverts Rosa, Jan Goverts Rosa, Heijman Goverts Rosa, Anthonij Goverts Rosa, Ike Goverts Rosa, and Aernout Goverts Rosa. The article “Genealogie Roosa of Rosa te Andel” gives the same children (Aernout = Aert).
[5] Jos de Kloe wrote, “The deceased Bastiaan van Wijk published this in GTMWB 1981, p.251. He gives as the source two documents from the court archives of Heusden (NBr):
· Heusden R495, f.65, date 6-1-1661
· Heusden R486, f.85v, date 5-8-1653
I have not seen the originals, but Bastiaan was very well known for his knowledge of the Heusden archives, so I have no reason to doubt the correctness of this.”
[6] From the fact that Gijsbert’s patronym was Hijmonsz (indicating that his father was named Hijmon) and the fact that Heijman’s father was named Gijsbert and he would probably have named his eldest son after his father, it has been guessed that Gijsbert is a son of Heijman and IJken.
