Alice ," article, Olive and Eliza, last accessed [current date]."
William Elwyn was of Heigham, Norfolk, England. His
parentage is not known with any certainty. He was possibly
the son of a man named William Elwyn
if he was the "William Elwyn the younger" mentioned in the will of Peter
Elwyn) (see NEHGR 166:35-36). (Note, however, that at this time, "the
younger" might not mean what Junior means today (that is, son of someone
with the same name). It occasionally meant that there was an older
neighbor, cousin, or even brother with the same name.) Our William may
also be the grandson of Peter Elwyn himself, as Peter refers to his
"neve" (grandson) William Elwyn. However, note that this identification
of William Elwyn of Heigham as the William Elwyn(s) in Peter's will has
not been sufficiently proved as true (see NEHGR 169:52-53).
William married Alice .
He was a churchwarden of Heigham and he seems to have established the
tannery later operated by his sons and grandsons in Norwich, Norfolk,
England (see NEHGR 166:36-37). Alice was buried 13 February 1602-3 in
Heigham, Norfolk, England and William was buried 3 February 1611-12 in
Heigham, Norfolk, England.
