Martin Dening and Anna Maria Maurer

Martin Dening (sometimes called Denig) was born about 1721 or 1730 in Bitche, Lorraine, France.  He was a Catholic and a farmer. Martin married Anna Maria Maurer. Anna Maria was born about 1729 or 1731, presumably of Bitche, Lorraine, France. They lived in Louis, Samara, Russia, then Herzog, Samara, Russia.

Michael and Anna Maria's children are:

  1. Johannes Dening, born about 1764, probably in Bitche, Lorraine, France, married Eva Becker.
  2. Anna Denning, captured by the Kirghiz-Kasakh (nomadic people living on the steppes) in 1786 but was later returned home.
  3. Michael Dening, born about 1768 in Russia, moved to Mariental, Samara, Russia in 1796, married Elisabeta Sulsbach.
  4. Catharina Dening, born about 1769 in Russia, married Johannes Kuhn (b. abt. 1769 in Herzog, Samara, Russia to (Johann?) Heinrich Kuhn and (Anna Margaretha --?), d. 1839).

First Settlers List
"...Herzog, Graf, Rohleder, Shafer, Urbach, Reinhardt, Reinwalt and Schulz were also attacked on August 15, 1774, but suffered only slight damages. It is estimated that over twelve hundred men, women and children were taken prisoners by the Kirghiz. Some were brought to the trading post at Cherburg and traded for merchandize...Anna Denning, who was stolen from Herzog in 1768, was later returned to her village."
