Georg Greineiß was born about 1470 in Frankenberg (an der Eder), Waldeck-Frankenberg, Hesse, Germany. Georg was a "Bürger und Ratsherr" (citizen and councilor) in Frankenberg. He died after 1548.

While Georg is the earliest known ancestor of this line of the Greineisen family, there were earlier Greineisens recorded in the area of Frankenberg. As early as 1343, there was a Bürger (citizen) in Frankenberg named Johann Grinysen. Also, around 1460-73, there was a priest named Johann Grynißin, Inhalber (proprietor) of the St. Annensaltars at the monastery at Georgenberg, Hesse, Germany, who died in 1474.

...Sie [the Greineisen family] war zunächst in Frankenberg/Eder ansässig.Dort gab es schon 1343 einen Bürger Johann Grinysen und um 1460--73 (✝ 1474) einen Priester Johann Grynißin, Inhaber des St. Annenaltars im Kloster Georgenberg (Schunder, Oberh. Klöster, I 1961, Nt. 528, 637). Eine Stammfolge kann jedoch erst seit dem Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts aufgestellt werden...
