John Fairbanke was the son of William Fairbanke. William surrendered 17 acres called Brigbotham and a croft called Pigilcroft in Sowerby, Yorkshire, England to John's use in 1506/7. Later, in 1526, John surrendered Brigbotham and other lands to his son Gilbert. On 14 April 1551, John and Gilbert surrendered land to the use of George Fairbank, John's grandson and Gilbert's son, and George's bride-to-be Sybil Wade.

1506-07 22 Henry VII. William [Fairbank] surrendered all of his estate and term of years not yet elapsed which he held in 17 a[cres] of land and meadow called Brigbothame, and one croft called Pigilcroft in Soarbie to the use of John Faerebaink, son of said William and his assigns during the term.

1526 19 Henry VIII. John Fairbanke surrendered "Brigbotham" &c to the use of Gilbert Fairebanke, son of the aforesaid John Fairebank and the heirs of his body lawfully begotten, rendering therefore yearly 48 s. 9 d.

14 April 1551 [Sowerby] John Fairbanke and Gilbert Fairbanke the son and heir of John...surrendered unto the lord's hands one messuage, one garden and half of one barn and one croft called Lathecroft, 2 closes of land and meadow called Overholme and Netherholme and a wood called Le Sprynge with appurtenances estimated at 5 acres now in the tenure of Humphrey Fairebank: to the use of George Fairbank, son of Gilbert, and Sibyl Wade, daughter of Gilbert Waide...

14 April 1551 [Sowerby] Gilbert Fairbanke...surrendered unto the lord's hands all and every one of those messuagees, lands, meadows, closes, tenements and rents and customs with appurtenances in Soureby estimated at 18 1/2 acres: to the use of George Fairbank, son and heir of Gilbert, and the lawfully procreated heirs of the bodies of George and Sibyl Waide, daughter of Gilbert Waide...
