Valentin Pfeifer was baptized 16 August 1701 at St. Martin’s Church, Orb (now Bad Orb), Main-Kinzig-Kreis, Hesse, Germany to Jacob Pfeifer and Catharina Paulus. He was Catholic, a citizen (Bürger) of Orb, and a blacksmith.

Valentin married first Catharina —. Catharina was born about 1705. She died before 7 January 1761, when the widowed Valentin remarried.

Valentin married second Maria Elisabetha — 7 January 1761 at St. Martin’s Church, Orb, Main-Kinzig-Kreis, Hesse, Germany. Elisabeth’s last name was not recorded in the marriage record but it was noted that she was a widow.

In 1766, Valentin, Elisabeth, their daughters Katharina and Anna, Valentin’s sons Johannes and Jacob, and his sons’ wives immigrated to Russia. Valentin, Elisabeth, and the girls embarked from Lübeck, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany arriving at Oranienbaum (near St. Petersburg), Russia 12 September 1766. Valentin was listed as a farmer.

While Valentin’s sons are known to have settled in the colonies of Pfeifer and Luzern (both in Saratov Oblast, Russia), Valentin, Elisabeth, Katharina, and Anna have not been located in any of the colonies along the Volga. It is possible therefore that Valentin and perhaps the three others did not survive the year between arrival and being sent to the colonies.
