Zachariah Bunker and Desire Gorham
Zachariah Bunker was born in 1716 in Nantucket, Nantucket, Massachusetts to Jonathan Bunker and Elizabeth Coffin. He had three older sisters, Lydia, Ruth, and Patience, and one older brother, John. He also had three younger brothers, Simeon, James, and George, and two younger sisters, Abigail and Judith. Zachariah married Desire Gorham 2 September 1728 in Nantucket, Nantucket, Massachusetts. Desire was born 26th 9 month 1710[1] to Shubael Gorham and Puella Hussey. Desire had two older brothers, George and Daniel, five older sisters, Abigail, Lydia, Hannah, Theodate, and Deborah, and two younger sisters, Ruth and Sally. Zachariah died 14th 8 month 1757 probably in Nantucket, Massachusetts. Desire was living in Sherburne, Nantucket, Massachusetts when the 1790 census was taken. She died 5th 11 month 1801, probably in Nantucket, Massachusetts.

2. Shubael Bunker, born 9 Aug 1731 in Nantucket, Nantucket, Massachusetts, married Lydia Paddock 7th 12 mo (Feb) 1750 in Sherborn, Nantucket, Massachusetts, also lived in Hudson, Columbia, New York.
3. Andrew Bunker, born 30 Aug 1752 probably in Nantucket, Massachusetts[3], never married, died 14th 1 mo 1779 at sea (coming from the West Indies) from smallpox.
4. James Bunker, born 21 Aug 1733 or 4 probably in Nantucket, Massachusetts, married 1) Mary Shakelford and 2) Hannah Shurtleff 6 Jan 1757 in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts, moved to Barrington, Nova Scotia in 1763, died in 1768 (lost at sea).
5. Simeon Bunker, born 21 Mar 1736 in Nantucket, Nantucket, Massachusetts, married 1) Mary Swain 27 Jan 1766 and 2) Experience Studley 28 Oct 1783, lived for awhile in Barrington, Nova Scotia but later returned to Nantucket, “went down east”.
6. Elizabeth Bunker, born 18 Sep 1738 in Nantucket, Nantucket, Massachusetts, married 1) Robert Rider 25 Jul 1756 in Nantucket, Nantucket, Massachusetts, 2) James Riddell, and 3) Barnabas Briggs 9 Nov 1769 in Nantucket, Massachusetts.[4]
7. Desire Bunker, born 16 Aug 1741 in Nantucket, Nantucket, Massachusetts, 1) John or Eber Benthall 1 May 1766 and 2) Abner Coffin, Jr. 24 Dec 1775 in Nantucket, Nantucket, Massachusetts, died 11th 9 mo 1801 probably in Nantucket, Massachusetts.
8. Zachariah Bunker, born 11 Mar 1744 in Nantucket, Nantucket, Massachusetts, married Judith Folger 1st 1 mo (Jan) 1767 in Nantucket, Nantucket, Massachusetts, died by 1806, captain of the whaler “Africa”, moved to Nova Scotia.

[1] The above date is a Quaker date as given by the Hussey Millennium Manuscript and the Nantucket Vital Records. This date was given as 26 Nov in IGI extraction records and the Barney record. Note prior to the change from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar November would have been the ninth month, not September. Therefore, both dates may be accurate. Footnotes
[2] Nantucket Vital Records mentions that he also married Experience Studley, his brother Simeon’s second wife but as this is recorded with a “sic” next to it, it is most likely an error.
[3] Moran and the Nantucket Vital Records gave his birth date as 30 Aug 1752. However, the Barney record gives it as 9 Aug 1731 and states that he was Shubael’s twin.
[4] Moran suggests that Elizabeth married a fourth husband, one Capt. Codd. No other records mention this, though the Nantucket Vital Records state that her third husband was of Cape Cod. This makes me wonder if “Capt. Codd” was actually “Cape Cod”, thus a place not a person.
